CES 2025: Faraday Future’s Cheapest EV to Date?

If you consider the increased tariffs and constant threats from the trump administration, then it wouldn’t be too difficult to assume that the price of electric vehicles is unlikely to see a dip in the US market by the year 2025.

This does not come as much surprising when Chinese manufacturers expand their market because they already sell the most inexpensive EV globally, but August tariffs on China had made it impossible for EVs to be manufactured in China and then exported to the US.

As retail prices state and propose that the new Chinese mobile BYD targets selling its least expensive automotive for under $25,000, they would still be considered the most inexpensive EV on the US market regardless of the imposed tariffs.

Faraday Future’s Chief Executive Officer has given a statement saying that they will make a ‘Business Update on FX Prototypes’ during CES in January 2025, Which adds on to the string excitement of the announcement that BYD made. Faraday did add on further and state that they believe the FX 5 to cost between 20,000 to 30,000 dollars.

The charge would make it difficult for them to go under $20,000. With the current federal credits in place, the FX 5 does have the potential to become the cheapest EV sold in the US.

The leaf remains the cheapest electric vehicle available in the market, priced at $28140. Thanks to the tax rebate of $3750 that the federal government provides, the vehicle can be sold for closer to $25,000. However, this price only lasts until the 20th of January. Until this time, the Nissan Leaf stands as the leader because it has no competition as the next EV to that offers affordability is the Equinox.

With a price of $34,995, the Chevy Equinox is been sold, further decreasing the holdover price to $27495 because it is eligible for the rebate of $7500. This allowed General GM to exit first in the nearest competition against Nissan Leaf.

But, according to reports and news, it looks like the Trump administration is against the subsidies and tax incentives provided for EVs and does not support them and favors abolishing such things. Following the news, Tesla has been vague and aims to launch a model that comes under the price tag of $30,000 sometime during 2025.

Farway’s FX 5 has sufficient room according to the expectations to provide the most economical ev out there. But that is still up for decision considering whether the FX 5 should lower their price or not.
