The principle and application of automatic power-off when an electric vehicle charger is fully charged
The principle of automatic power-off
The principle that an electric vehicle charger automatically cuts off power after being fully charged mainly relies on the battery management system (BMS) of the electric vehicle and the intelligent control function of the charging equipment.
The role of the Battery Management System (BMS) :
The BMS is the core management unit of the battery pack in electric vehicles, responsible for monitoring parameters such as the battery’s status, temperature, voltage, and current, and adjusting the charging and discharging strategies based on these parameters to ensure the safety and performance of the battery.
Intelligent control of charging equipment
Modern electric vehicle chargers and charging piles usually have intelligent control functions and can communicate with the vehicle’s BMS to obtain the battery’s charging status in real time.
When the battery is fully charged, the BMS will send a signal to the charging device, indicating that the battery has reached a fully charged state.
After receiving the signal, the charging device will automatically cut off the power supply and stop the charging process to prevent the battery from overcharging.
Protection mechanism against overcharging:
Overcharging is one of the main causes of battery damage, which may lead to the decomposition of the electrolyte inside the battery, battery expansion, overheating and other problems, ultimately shortening the battery life.
The automatic power-off function can effectively prevent battery overcharging and protect the safety and performance of the battery.
Usage method
Connect the charger to the vehicle:
Insert the plug of the electric vehicle charger into the charging port of the vehicle and make sure the connection is secure.
Start charging:
Start the charging process according to the instructions of the charger or the charging Settings of the vehicle.
During the charging process, the charging progress and status can be monitored on the vehicle’s central control screen or the mobile phone APP.
Wait for automatic power-off:
When the battery is fully charged, the charger will automatically cut off the power supply and stop charging.
At this point, you can check the status of the completed charging on the vehicle’s central control screen or the mobile phone APP.
Disconnect the charger
After the charging is completed, disconnect the charger from the vehicle in accordance with the charger’s instructions or the vehicle’s charging Settings.
Make sure the charger and charging port are dry and clean to prevent dust and moisture from entering.
Precautions
Choose the appropriate charger:
Make sure the selected charger matches the charging interface and voltage level of the vehicle.
For different brands and models of electric vehicles, specific types of chargers may be required.
Comply with charging regulations:
During the charging process, please abide by the local charging regulations and electrical safety rules.
Avoid charging in damp, dusty or flammable and explosive environments.
Regular inspection and maintenance:
Regularly check the appearance of the charger and whether the connecting wires are damaged or aged.
If any abnormal situation is found, please contact professional maintenance personnel in time for inspection and repair.
Understand the situation of charging facilities:
Before traveling to remote areas or on long trips, please learn about the charging facilities along the way and allow sufficient charging time.
