Noise sources and solutions when Using Electric Vehicle chargers

Electric vehicle chargers may generate noise when in use. These noises mainly come from the following aspects and the corresponding solutions:

Source of noise

Fan heat dissipation problem:

Electric vehicle chargers are usually equipped with fans for heat dissipation to ensure that the temperature of electronic components does not get too high during the charging process. As the usage time increases, dust may accumulate inside the fan, or the lubricating oil on the rollers may decrease, resulting in increased noise.

Loose high-frequency magnetic core

If the high-frequency magnetic core inside the charger becomes loose, it will also generate noise. This might be caused by vibration during long-term use or transportation.

Filter capacitor failure:

If the pre-filter capacitor in the charger fails, it will cause the ripple to increase. This situation is usually accompanied by a decrease in the charging current and may generate noise.

Dust accumulation in the charging system

After long-term use, the charging system may accumulate dust, resulting in poor heat dissipation. The fan needs to increase its speed to dissipate heat, thereby generating more noise.

Environmental temperature influence:

When charging in a high-temperature environment, the cooling fan inside the charger needs to operate more rapidly to dissipate heat, which also leads to increased noise.

Fan quality issues:

If the fan of the charger is of poor quality, the sound it makes when running will also be relatively loud.

Charger components fall off:

If the components inside the charger fall off, it may cause uneven charging voltage, increase the temperature of the charger, thereby accelerating the rotation of the cooling fan and generating noise.

Solution method

Clean and lubricate the fan:

Regularly clean the dust off the charger fan to ensure smooth operation of the fan. If the lubricating oil of the fan roller is reduced, appropriate lubricating oil can be added to lower the noise.

Tighten the high-frequency magnetic core:

If the high-frequency magnetic core is found to be loose, it can be fastened with paper and sealed with paraffin or hot melt adhesive to prevent the magnetic core from loosening again.

Replace the filter capacitor:

If the filter capacitor fails, it is necessary to check and replace it with a new one to ensure the normal operation of the charger and reduce noise.

Clean the dust in the charging system:

Regularly clean the dust on the charging system to ensure good heat dissipation and reduce the fan speed, thereby lowering the noise.

Improve the charging environment

When charging in a high-temperature environment, try to choose a well-ventilated place to lower the temperature of the charger, reduce the fan speed and noise.

Replace with high-quality fans:

If the fan is of poor quality and makes a loud noise when running, you may consider replacing it with a fan of better quality.

Repair or replace the charger:

If the components of the charger fall off or other internal faults cause noise, it is necessary to contact professional maintenance personnel for inspection or replacement of the charger.

Precautions

When using an electric vehicle charger, it is necessary to ensure that the charging environment is well-ventilated to prevent the charger from overheating.

Regularly check the connection wires and interfaces of the charger to ensure there is no damage or looseness.

Avoid using the charger in damp or waterlogged environments to prevent the risk of electric shock.

If you notice any abnormal sounds or smoke from the charger or other malfunction phenomena, stop using it immediately and contact a professional for inspection and repair.
