Long-term preservation of PVC bags in indoor environments

Control of storage environment conditions

Temperature regulation

PVC material is highly sensitive to temperature. Long-term exposure to either high or low temperatures may affect its performance. When storing PVC bags indoors, the temperature should be controlled between 15℃ and 30℃. When the temperature is too high, for instance, exceeding 35℃, the PVC molecular chains will become active and prone to thermal degradation, causing the bags to soften, deform, and even develop problems such as adhesion and breakage. Imagine placing PVC bags on a hot balcony. Under direct sunlight, the temperature may reach over 40℃, and the bags will soon become soft and limp, making them unusable. However, when the temperature is too low, such as below 5℃, PVC will become brittle and its toughness will decrease, making it prone to cracking when subjected to external forces. Just like in the cold winter, PVC products placed outdoors will become hard and may break with a gentle fold. Therefore, it is best to store PVC bags in indoor Spaces with relatively stable temperatures, such as living rooms and bedrooms, and avoid places with large temperature fluctuations, such as radiator and air conditioner vents or Windows.

Humidity control

Humidity is also an important factor affecting the preservation of PVC bags. Excessive humidity can cause the surface of PVC bags to absorb moisture, which is prone to mold growth, leading to problems such as mold spots and discoloration on the bag surface. It may also corrode the glue and other adhesives inside the bags, affecting their sealing performance and durability. However, if the humidity is too low, it will cause the PVC material to dry out, become brittle and lose its original flexibility. Generally speaking, the indoor relative humidity should be maintained at 40% to 60%. If the indoor humidity is too high, dehumidifiers, desiccants and other equipment can be used to reduce it. If the humidity is too low, you can use a humidifier or place a water basin indoors to increase it. For instance, during the rainy season, the indoor humidity may exceed 80%. At this time, it is necessary to use a dehumidifier in a timely manner to keep the humidity within an appropriate range.

Light protection

PVC material is prone to photo-oxidation reactions under light, causing the bags to fade, age and become brittle. Especially ultraviolet rays have a more obvious destructive effect on PVC. Therefore, PVC bags should be stored in a dark place, avoiding direct sunlight and strong light. Bags can be placed in closed Spaces such as wardrobes, drawers, and storage boxes. If they must be placed in a room with a window, curtains can be used to block the sunlight. For instance, if PVC bags are placed on a windowsill directly exposed to sunlight, after a period of time, the bags will fade significantly, their surface will become rough, and their service life will be greatly shortened.

Storage methods and organization

Hang and store

For some large-sized and regular-shaped PVC bags, they can be stored by hanging. Use a hanger or a special hook to hang the bag on the wardrobe or the wall. This can not only save space but also prevent the bag from being deformed due to compression. When hanging, pay attention to choosing the appropriate hook to ensure that the bag can be hung smoothly without slipping. For instance, hang some large PVC bags for clothing storage on the crossbars of the wardrobe, which is convenient to access and can also maintain the shape of the bags.

Lay flat and stack

For a large number of small-sized PVC bags, laying them flat and stacking them is a common storage method. When stacking, make sure the bags are neatly arranged to avoid wrinkles and distortions. A layer of soft paper or fabric can be placed between each layer of bags to reduce the friction between the bags and prevent the surface of the bags from being scratched. At the same time, the stacking height should not be too high, generally not exceeding 50 centimeters, to prevent the bottom bags from deforming due to excessive pressure. For instance, if multiple small PVC bags for cosmetics storage are laid flat and stacked in a drawer, with tissues separating each layer, it will be both neat and easy to find.

Categorize and organize

For the convenience of management and use, PVC bags should be classified and organized. Bags can be classified according to their uses, sizes, colors, etc., and bags of the same type can be placed together. For example, put the PVC bags used for storing clothes together and those used for storing sundries together. Or store bags of different colors separately. In this way, when needed, the required bag can be quickly found, improving efficiency.

Regular inspection and maintenance

Visual inspection

Conduct an appearance inspection of the PVC bags at regular intervals (it is recommended to do so every 3 to 6 months). Check whether there are any damages, scratches, mold spots, fading or other conditions on the surface of the bag. If small damages are found in the bag, they can be repaired with PVC-specific glue to prevent the damage from expanding. For instance, if a small crack is found at the edge of the bag, it can be promptly glued together and then it can continue to be used. For bags with mold spots, you can gently wipe them with a damp cloth dipped in an appropriate amount of cleaner, then rinse them thoroughly with clean water, dry them and store them.

Performance test

In addition to visual inspection, a simple test of the performance of PVC bags can also be conducted. For example, check the sealing property of the bag. Put some items into the bag, seal the opening, and then squeeze the bag to see if there is any air leakage. Test the flexibility of the bag. Gently bend the bag to see if it breaks easily. If the performance of the bag is found to decline, such as poor sealing or reduced flexibility, the bag should be replaced in time to avoid problems during use.

Cleaning and maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance of PVC bags can extend their service life. When cleaning, you can use warm water and neutral detergent. Gently wipe the surface of the bag with a soft cloth to remove dust and stains. Avoid using cleaning agents containing organic solvents such as alcohol and gasoline to prevent corrosion of PVC materials. After cleaning, the bags should be dried to prevent residual moisture from causing them to mold. For instance, every month, use a damp cloth dipped in a small amount of detergent to wipe the surface of the PVC bag, and then dry it with a dry cloth. This can keep the bag clean and tidy.
